Proposed Society rule changes

NOTE ON PROPOSED RULE CHANGES FROM THE PRESIDENT AND THE PRESIDENT ELECT

Over the course of the last year, the General Committee has been reviewing the Society’s rules and governance to ensure that they are fit for purpose.

The rules were first put in place some fifty years ago, and have been changed piecemeal since then on a number of occasions. During that time the Society has of course changed considerably – as has the legal framework in which associations such as ours operate - and the General Committee has concluded that they do not now reflect the reality of the way in which the Society functions.

The Society

The Society of Old Brentwoods, founded in 1899, is the association for former pupils of Brentwood School. All past pupils are automatically members of the Society, once elected, for the first five years after leaving the School. Thereafter, they are asked to renew their membership annually by Standing Order payments of £23.50.
