Since 2004, a group of Old Brentwoods living within travelling distance of Bournemouth meet twice a year in the Spring and Autumn for a convivial lunch in the Miramar Hotel in Bournemouth.
The twelve Old Brentwoods who attended the fifteenth meeting of the Bournemouth Lunch Group on 5th April 2011 at The Miramar Hotel were entertained by fellow Old Brentwood, Rev. Graham Smith (1943-49) who told a number of amusing anecdotes and stories of his career as a probation officer and clergyman. One of his best stories was when Graham was officiating at a committal, the Funeral Director, in error, told the bearers to present the coffin to the grave the wrong way round. In spite of Graham's urgent stage whisper protestations, the bearers were told to let it down as instructed. When the mistake became apparent, as the wide end crunched the sides, and the mourners had gone, they had to do a rapid exhumation, without the Home Secretary's permission and reinter the coffin the correct way !
The next luncheon will be on Tuesday 8th November 2011. Please contact Geoffrey Holland on telephone 01202 385381 or email to gt.holland@ntlworld.com for further details.
