The Society’s ArchivesWith the Old Brentwoods Society being over 100 years old, it is important that the documentation, pictures, artefacts and recollections reflecting the history of the Society and its activities over the years is preserved for future reference and interest. The School has kindly made the old stables/changing rooms of School House available as a permanent home for the Society archives and the area has been set up with filing and display facilities for this purpose. Material relating to the history of the Society (rather than the School) and its members is always welcome. Obvious areas of interest are the Committee Minutes and papers of the Society Committee, the now defunct Sports Club and the Management Committee; menus, pictures of the Annual Dinner; records of A.G.Ms.; details regarding the acquisition and building of Burland Road and Ashwells Road; records and memorabilia from the various affiliated sporting clubs and affiliated groups and any records of Old Brentwoods "social activity" in general. Much of the potential material for the Archive is probably gathering dust in lofts and only finds its way to the archivist on the demise of the collector (if we are lucky) and the Archivist (timfaiers@hotmail.co.uk) would appeal to members to have a clear out sooner rather than later. However, a full set, and more, of The Chronicle is already held and it is of great value if photographs and papers can be annotated with names, dates and any other relevant details. The Archive room is usually open on Old Brentwoods day and it is hoped that exhibits can be on display at the Clubhouse so that you can read the first Chronicle, see who attended the Dinner in 1920, ring the Newnum Bell, try on a Bunglers Tour cap or see Charles Bean on Rugby Tour to Yarmouth. |
